HUNGARY’s match against the Netherlands was halted following a medical emergency.

Reports online suggested that someone on the Hungarian bench had an issue.

Dominik Szoboszlai was seen distraught as the game was halted

The match was suspended for 10 minutes, with medics rushing to the aid of the man.

Liverpool ace Dominik Szoboszlai was visibly moved and was seen in tears – rubbing his eyes with his shirt.

The distressing scenes caused a hushed silence in the crown as Hungarian staff locked arms to protect the person’s privacy.

A medical team were quick off the mark to reach Hungary’s bench, as players and coaches looked on.

Hungarian TV have since claimed the person who fell ill was retired Adam Szalai, a former striker and captain of the team who became an assistant last month.

According to Sky Sports journalist Amar Mehta, Szalai is already stable and conscious.

He will be taken to a nearby hospital for checks.

He wrote on X: “Netherlands v Hungary was suspended earlier due to a medical incident in the away dugout.

“Hungary confirmed on X that Adam Szalai fell ill in the first minutes. He is stable and conscious now and has been taken to hospital.”

An official statement read: “Ádám Szalai is stable, he is conscious. Few minutes ago he was taken by ambulance to a hospital in Amsterdam for examination”.

The match continued some 10 minutes later, with Holland soon rubbing salt into the wounds by scoring from the penalty spot following a VAR decision.

Former Man Utd striker Wout Weghorst scored from 12-yards to give the hosts the lead.

The Netherlands would score another penalty in the 12th minute of injury time to go into the break with a commanding lead.

Liverpool star Cody Gakpo made sure from the spot to give Netherlands the advantage.

However, football is secondary – with everyone’s thoughts hoping Szalai recovers well.
