NEWCASTLE celebrated returning to the Champions League with a stunning drone show over St James’ Park.

The Toon will host French champions PSG on Wednesday – their first home match in Europe’s elite competition for two decades.

Newcastle celebrated returning to the Champions League with a drone show

The show was produced by Newcastle’s shirt sponsor Sela

To mark the occasion, Monday night saw the club’s shirt sponsor Sela put on a spectacular lights show.

During the eight-minute display, Newcastle’s mascot – the magpie – flew across the sky to showcase the black and white shirts of Kieran Trippier, Bruno Guimaraes and Sandro Tonali.

The drones then recreated the club emblem in the sky, before the drones formed a message.

It simply read: “We’re Back”.

The curtain was brought down on the performance by showcasing Sela’s tagline “Spectacular Everyday”.

Newcastle kicked off their Champions League campaign away at AC Milan last month.

And while they were second best for much of the game, they came away with a valuable point after holding the seven-time winners to a goalless draw.

After the game, manager Eddie Howe said: “You can’t underestimate the difficulties of coming here – the emotion of the game, new experiences, we had to take a lot on board today.

“I thought the crowd were very good for Milan.

“It was a hostile atmosphere and the players had to adjust to that and that is why I don’t think you can underestimate the performance and point.

“It will look better and better as time goes on.

“There were new experiences for a lot of us tonight and hopefully we can grow from this.”
