The north east club offered upwards of £70million for the 22-year-old, who bagged 13 goals in the Bundesliga last season.
But Manchester United have reportedly stolen a march on their Premier League rivals with a £74m offer for the Slovenia international.
Newcastle are now said to be scrambling for alternatives to Sesko, who allegedly has his heart set on a move to Old Trafford.
And according to The Telegraph, they’re now contemplating signing Chelsea hitman Jackson.
They claim the Senegal international has emerged as a “serious option” for Toon boss Eddie Howe.
Howe is desperate to sign a new striker before the transfer window closes to offset Isak’s potential move to Liverpool.
And Jackson, 24, is said to feature “highly” on his list of attacking targets.

A move for Jackson could be a swift one as Chelsea are eager to sell the striker following the acquisitions of Liam Delap and Joao Pedro.
But Newcastle could be put off by the Blues’ reported £100m valuation of the forward.
Jackson ended the 2024/25 season with 13 goals and six assists in 37 appearances for Enzo Maresca‘s side.
