No real deterrent to stop illegal immigration means boats will keep coming and anger will keep growing

Deliver, PM

IT’S become an easy option for Labour ministers to blame the Tories for every problem they face.

But the Conservatives DID preside over a chaotic asylum system which meant migrants given the right to stay were allowed to immediately apply to ship family members over.

Rising public anger over the small boats crisis is unlikely to be calmed by the Home Secretary’s largely underwhelming statement to MPs

Since 2023 there’s been a five-fold increase in the number of refugees’ family members granted visas to come to the UK, from 4,300 then to 20,600 in the year to March.

Yvette Cooper is right to end this now — as is Keir Starmer with his pledge to bring forward asylum hotel closures as part of his “phase two” No10 reset.

But rising public anger is unlikely to be calmed by the Home Secretary’s largely underwhelming statement to MPs.

It amounted to little more than tinkering around the edges.

The truth is that anyone coming here illegally should be deported BEFORE trying to bring over their family.

And our broken system means asylum-seekers are still getting access to rent-free townhouses worth £300,000 while British families are frozen out.

Every measure to stop the boats repeated by Cooper yesterday was undermined by one key missing factor.

Britain still lacks a proper deterrent.

Nott right, Nige

REFORM yesterday unveiled new plans to tackle enormous waste in local councils.

Much of that waste has been exposed by journalists.

Yet one local branch of the party is waging a totally unnecessary war on a regional newspaper.

After the Nottingham Post carried criticism of Reform’s leadership of their local authority, a ban was issued.

Reporters are barred from council offices or events and the paper is not even being sent press releases.

This is both anti-democratic and a huge disservice to local voters.

Nigel Farage champions free speech more than most politicians.

So if he has any sense, he’ll quickly rein in the petty new sheriffs of Nottingham.

Rayn check

FOR Deputy PM Angela Rayner, the questions over her purchase of an £800,000 seafront flat in Hove pile up.

The main puzzle is around how much stamp duty she might have avoided.

Conveniently, the flat was bought shortly after she forfeited a stake in a house in her Greater Manchester constituency.

This likely saved her £40,000 — all at a time when her tax-loving Government is busy hammering second-home owners.

No 10 says Ms Rayner is urgently working on getting a mysterious court order lifted which prevents her telling her side of the story.

Until she does so, the stench will continue to grow.
