Nottingham Forest vs Arsenal preview
Mikel Arteta will have a serious task on his hands to revitalise his Arsenal squad following a hugely disappointing weekend.
The Gunners squandered the opportunity to close the gap on Premier League leaders Liverpool following a shock 1-0 home defeat to West Ham United on Saturday.
Arne Slot’s side then went and beat Manchester City in a dominant fashion to widen their gap at the top of the division to a virtually unassailable 11 points with just 12 games remaining.
Some bookmakers have already paid out on Liverpool clinching the title given the majority of their league games are at Anfield.
So motivation could be an issue for Arteta and his injury-plagued squad with the Champions League now their final chance at silverware this campaign.
That’s far from ideal against a Nottingham Forest side with very realistic hopes of Champions League qualification,
Nuno Espirito Santo’s side sit third in the division and three points clear of fourth-placed Manchester City despite successive defeats to Fulham and Newcastle United.
However, there were reasons to be cheerful for Nuno and Co. following their impressive second-half display at St James’ Park on Sunday.
They’ve also won five of their last six Premier League home games – including a 7-0 thumping of Brighton – and could close the gap on Arsenal to just three points should they secure victory.
Although there are a few things in Artsenal’s favour.
The first being that they’ve won 12 of their last 13 evening kick-offs in the Premier League and opposition manager Nuno Espirito Santo has lost each of his last three top-flight meetings with Arsenal.
