OASIS fans have abandoned their cars on the motorway after a horror crash forced the road shut in both directions.

One person died in the accident as thousands of fans headed to Heaton Park ahead of the Gallagher brothers’ concert.

One man has died after being hit by a vehicle, with police, fire crews and paramedics racing to the scene shortly after.

An investigation into the man’s death has begun, following a “welfare incident”, and the road is expected to be closed throughout the evening.

The accident occurred at Junction 20 and has led to the closure of the road between Junction 19 for Middleton and Junction 22 for Chadderton.

Heavy traffic has been steadily building on the road since the accident, leading some fans to abandon their cars to reach Heaton Park.

Several have been spotted heading to the concert on foot, with the Gallagher brothers’ set to take the stage at 8.15pm.

However, drivers have been urged to stay in their cars as abandoning them on the motorway can be extremely dangerous.

Stationary cars can cause collisions and people walking on foot could be hit by a car.

Although it is unknown when the road will be reopened, a spokesperson from the Bee Network – the company which runs Manchester’s trams and buses – has released a statement following the closure.

The statement read: “Due to a serious road traffic collision on the M60 J20, part of the motor way is currently closed causing significant delays on roads in the area.

“This may impact your journey to Heaton Park for the Oasis concert.”

The Gallagher brothers’ tour has been a major success with the pair selling out venues in their home city of Manchester, as well as Wembley Stadium in London.

Their tour has seen the cost of renting Airbnbs and hotels rooms near concert venues skyrocket, with accommodation in Manchester seeing a staggering 370.70 per cent rise in price.

Their 41-show reunion tour sold out in minutes, after Liam and Noel finally put years of fighting behind them.

Now, major events like the huge US festival Coachella are reportedly eager to book Oasis for next year.

The brothers have reportedly been staying in separate hotels throughout the tour, in a bid to keep the peace between them and to “pace themselves” following their feud.

However, a source close to Liam and Noel said they have been “delighted” with the tour since their first performance.

The source said: “The atmosphere was absolutely electric and Liam and Noel were delighted with the first night.

“They were a bit shell-shocked.

“It went better than anyone could have imagined.

“The lead up has all been carefully orchestrated, as everyone knows how delicate and fragile Liam and Noel’s relationship is.

“They don’t want to over-expose themselves to each other.

“Having separate residences is the best option so they can relax in their own space.

“They stayed in separate locations outside the city around half an hour away from each other.

They’re happy families at the moment and they want to keep it that way.

“Liam has been off the booze for a while and sounds better than ever.

“He wants eight hours’ sleep every night and is avoiding boozing and partying altogether.

“Liam’s clean-living is working wonders too.

“Everyone’s been really impressed — they’re determined to stay focused on making the magic happen on stage.”
