OLE Gunnar Solskjaer has blasted new club Besiktas for having “no scouting department” and claimed he is having to “structure the club” himself.

Solskjaer, 51, was announced as the new boss of the Turkish giants earlier this month, taking his first job in management since being sacked as Manchester United manager back in 2021.

Things with Besiktas got off to a flying start under Solskjaer, after the Black Eagles battered La Liga side Athletic Bilbao 4-1 in his first game in charge.

However, his side are winless since that match and a 1-0 defeat to FC Twente last night saw Besiktas crash out of the Europa League in 28th place.

Following their exit, Solskjaer didn’t hold back with his assessment of why the club may have struggled in Europe this term, claiming that there was no scouting department when he arrived.

After questions about new signings arriving to improve the team, he said: “I came in 10 days ago and we are working to bring the right people.

“There was no scouting department and no scouting reports when we came to the club.

“So that’s something I also work with. that we structure the club in the right way for the future.

“Of course the short term is important, but we cannot make the wrong decisions.

“We cannot bring players, expensive players, to the club because financially the club have spent a lot of money on this. And I think the president has talked about, at the moment, the financial situation.

“The big thing now is that we sit together and prioritise what we can do this window.”

Besiktas are yet to make any new signings in January but have until February 11 to get some new names through the door due to Turkey’s extended winter window.

Reports had suggested that Solskjaer could dip into the talent pool at Old Trafford to improve his ranks.

It has been suggested that both Marcus Rashford and Casemiro are being eyed by the Norwegian.

However, Solskjaer appeared to shut down those rumours when quizzed in his arrival press conference.

He said: “I’ve come from Manchester United, so there will be transfer news like this.

Casemiro and Rashford are very good players, but I haven’t had any contact with them.

“I enjoyed my time at Manchester United. That chapter is closed.”
