ONE town has become so riddled with bed bugs it’s been dubbed a disaster zone – and there are fears it’ll never get rid of the creatures.
Paranoia is mounting in Southend, and its link to London through public transport is being blamed.

An expert is now saying he thinks the town – which sits just an hour from the capital – is “too far gone” to be saved from the critters that make Brits skin crawl.
Kirk Day, who works on eradicating bed bugs from Southend homes, says he doubts the seaside spot will ever get rid of the nasty critters.
The managing director of Southend City Pest Control said: “I think we are too far gone.
“It is at the point where it’s going to be very hard to get it back to how it was a few years ago.”
Kirk has shared dozens of photos of beds riddled with the critters – some in kids’ rooms.
He said there were infestations all throughout town – and not just in people’s homes.
The expert continued: “It is a bit of a disaster zone at the moment. You have people infested via public transport, second-hand furniture, HMO properties, and care homes.
“We are working with Essex and Southend Council and trying to provide them with advice on houses, it is more so trying to get them to deal with the wider issue.”
Fears of a British “super-bed bug” invasion started growing when Paris became plagued with the six-legged blood-sucking critters.
Now, they’ve been spotted on public transport all over the country and pest exterminators say they’ve been busier than ever.
Kirk said the town of Southend had seen a 30% increase in critters since just the end of summer.
The Sun recently revealed where the UK’s bed bug outbreak is hitting hardest.
Experts used Google search data to work out which cities have the worst problem per population size.
London had the most searches for terms like ‘bed bug treatment’ per capita with 266,400 searches – – the equivalent to 2.97% of the population Googling bed bugs.
In second place is Leicester with 2.95% of the population and in third is Manchester with 2.8%.
Meanwhile, Wakefield had the lowest rate of bed bug problems with just 0.46% searching for bed bugs
