MORE than 1,000 cops have been investigated for social media abuse — including tracking down crime victims for dates.

Officers were also accused of sharing X-rated images, including some of children.

Some 1,017 cops have been quizzed over the past five years.

Another 53 were sacked or quit before a probe.

More than 20 cases saw women, including victims of crime, tracked down on social media.

Lincolnshire Police fired five over group chats deemed “offensive towards women, colleagues and the public”.

Another allegedly shared indecent images of children and is facing charges.

Herts Police probed a number of cops over offensive messages.
In West Mercia, one was found with X-rated content from OnlyFans.

Another, from Surrey Police, accidentally shared a sexual video of themselves on a work WhatsApp group.

Only 29 of 45 forces replied to a Freedom of Information request.

End Violence Against Women director Andrea Simon called for the police “culture” to change.

She said: “It’s a shocking fact that police abusing their position for a sexual purpose leads to more misconduct investigations than any other issue.”

The College of Policing said: “The public expects officers and staff to work honestly and ethically both offline and online.

“Any behaviour which breaches expected standards and creates damage to public confidence in policing can result in misconduct proceedings.”
