MORE than 3,000 town hall fatcats earned six-figure salaries in 2023 — the highest in almost ten years.

At least 175 local authority bureaucrats raked in more than £200,000, research shows.

The highest earner was Hampshire Council’s Felicity Roe, who had £651,158 including pension and ‘loss of office’ compensation

Critics blasted the huge pay for council bosses as taxes soar for workers and services are squeezed.

The annual Town Hall Rich List from the TaxPayers’ Alliance revealed 3,106 staff earning more than £100,000 — the highest tally since 2015.

Of these, 829 trousered more than £150,000 while 557 pocketed even more than PM Rishi Sunak’s £165,000.

The highest earner was Hampshire Council’s Felicity Roe, who had £651,158 including pension and “loss of office” compensation when she left after a restructure.

Westminster Council had the highest number of staff on six-figure sums — a total of 60.

TaxPayers’ Alliance chief John O’Connell said: “Residents can use these figures to ask whether precious funds are going to frontline services.”

Westminster Council said: “Salaries we pay reflect skills needed to lead the authority.”

Hampshire Council said: “Ms Roe’s post was deleted as part of the restructure.”
