MORE than £450,000 of taxpayer’s money is being spent every month to relocate Afghans to the UK after the MoD data leak scandal.

Around 100,000 were put at risk of Taliban death squads when their names or loved ones were revealed in 2022 with the blunder then “covered up” by a UK gagging order.

In response to a written question from Lord Kempsell, Lord Coaker revealed that both RAF and chartered flights had been used to fly those affected to the UK.

He refused to reveal which companies had been used for the chartered flights, but said that to date the average monthly cost to the Government had been £457,833.33.

A Special Forces soldier accidentally shared a list of 18,714 people who had applied to flee to Britain in the wake of the 2021 Taliban takeover of Afghanistan.

The list included their last-known locations, how they served British forces, and in some cases who supported their claims, including MPs and spies.

Around 34,000 Afghans have been offered new lives in the UK since the Taliban takeover.

The total cost is expected to be £7 billion.

Following news of the scandal breaking, the Taliban chillingly warned it would hunt down thousands of Afghan refugees on the ‘kill list’.

Taliban officials claimed details of all the refugees had been known to them since 2022, after they allegedly sourced the information from the internet.

Speaking to The Telegraph, they said: “A special unit has been launched to find them and make sure they do not work with Britain.

“We’ve been calling and visiting their family members to track them down.

“They believe these individuals are still working with the British, and say the problem must be dealt with.

“These people are seen as traitors, and the plan has been to find as many of them as possible.

“Whoever leaked that file is actually helping us. There may be a general amnesty in place, but spies cannot escape justice.”
