Williams also provided child sex images to Edwards, who paid the fiend £1,500 for 41 pictures and two videos of a boy as young as seven.

The BBC star had faced a maximum 12 months in jail for the offences but was instead handed a six month sentence suspended for two years.

Davies has now also been spared prison after his lawyer argued magistrates should consider “parity” with the broadcaster’s sentence.

Stewart Page said: “You are aware of a certain individual who was sentenced a number of months ago – he too had no previous convictions.

“The offences that that individual appeared before the court were similar to what Mr Davies appears, and of course you are aware, because the prosecutor outlined this, that a suspended sentence was imposed on that case.”

Davies was given a 12 month sentence, suspended for two years, after pleading guilty to possession of indecent images of children and possession of Class A drugs.

He was also banned from having any unsupervised contact with any child under the age of 16 and will remain on the sex offenders’ register for ten years.

Leeds Magistrates’ Court was told a probe was launched in Davies after he was linked to Williams’ case.

Police found he was in possession of 84 indecent images – including 36 classified under the most serious Category A.

As well as a clip of a baby being sexually abused, Davies had images featuring boys aged between three and five.

The fiend also spoke in graphic detail about the abuse he wanted to inflict on newborns.

Prosecutor Michelle Kruger said: “South Wales Police had been dealing with Alex Williams.

“As part of the investigation into that individual, this defendant was found to have been involved in indecent images being shared.

“Also involved… was a link between Alex Williams and Huw Edwards, the BBC News presenter.

“Both Williams and Mr Huw Edwards have been dealt with by the courts, and Huw Edwards, who you will be aware of, received a suspended sentence for the indecent images he was involved in.”

Edwards pleaded guilty to three counts of making indecent images of children in August this year.

He had engaged in an online chat with 25-year-old Williams between December 2020 and August 2021.

During this time, the paedo sent Edwards 377 sexual images, of which 41 were indecent images of children.

Westminster Magistrates’ Court heard he paid between £1,000 and £1,500 for the images, which he described as “amazing”.

Williams pleaded guilty in March to seven offences relating to possessing and distributing indecent images.

He was handed a 12-month jail term suspended for two years.

Edwards quit the BBC in April after 40 years reporting on some of the world’s biggest stories after The Sun revealed he had been paying a youngster thousands of pounds for sexual pictures.
