The man was hit on the A133 at Great Bentley, near Colchester, Essex, on Friday evening

The man sustained serious injuries before being found by cops.

Essex police said in a statement: “He was taken to hospital but, sadly, died this morning [April 5].”

Acting Detective Sergeant Rob Andrews thanked members of the public who tried to help the pedestrian.

He said officers were trying to work out an image of what happened leading up to the collision.

Andrews said: “My thoughts are with the family and friends of the man who has died at this very difficult moment.

“We are working to give them the answers about what happened and we are beginning to build a picture of what led up to the collision.

“I also want to thank the members of the public who tried to help the man.”

Police are now appealing for witnesses or anyone with CCTV, dashcam or other footage to get in touch to help with the case.

It comes after the A3 was closed in both directions after a horror car crash on Saturday.

Emergency services rushed to the scene between Liphook and Bramshott Common between Surrey and Portsmouth.

And on Tuesday, three people died and six were injured after a car smashed into a bus near Heathrow Airport.

The H26 bus was heading towards Hatton Cross before smashing head on with a silver Mercedes on a railway bridge in Feltham, London.
