Plane crashes at Imperial War Museum airfield as shock photos show wreckage

A PLANE has crashed at the Imperial War Museum airfield – with horrifying pictures showing the wreckage.

The horror unfolded shortly after 1.40pm at Duxford Airfield in Cambridgeshire.

The incident involved a private aircraft, the airfield said.

No further details have been given at this time but all three emergency services are on the scene.

A Cambridgeshire Police spokesperson said: “We were informed at 1.41pm of a plane crash at Duxford airfield.

“Officers from all emergency services are currently on scene.”

A spokesperson from IWM Duxford, said: “The emergency services are onsite at IWM Duxford responding to an incident involving a private aircraft.

“We have no further information at this time.

“IWM Duxford is closing to visitors for the remainder of this afternoon.”

The Fire Service said they were called but not utilised.

IMW Duxford is a historic airfield located around eight miles south of Cambridge which also hosts the American Air Museum.

Civilians can land planes on the runway.
