Sir Keir is being torn in two directions after Reform overturned a 15,000 Labour majority in Runcorn and Helsby — a seat once considered rock-solid.
Left-wingers blame the defeat on welfare cuts, including the £300 winter fuel payment, and planned changes to disability benefits.
But others say the real danger lies in Energy Secretary Ed Miliband’s “disastrous” green agenda and Sir Keir’s failure to take a tougher line on immigration — two issues Farage is hammering Labour on.
The PM yesterday admitted the result in Runcorn was “disappointing”.
He said he had no “magic wand” to fix Britain quickly. but promised to go “further and faster” in delivering “the change people want to see”.
One senior Labour MP told The Sun: “Keir now has to have a reshuffle.
“Ed Miliband has to be first in line to go.
“The Net Zero policy has been a disaster.”
Another said: “Tony Blair was right on Net Zero — it should be subsidiary to bringing bills down and energy security.
“Do we care more about bringing down legal migration or being very clear about restoring control over borders and stopping boats?
“No more half measures. Got to be bold, clear, and as impatient as working people feel.”
But voices on the Left say the party’s own cuts are fuelling the backlash.
Labour MP Dan Carden said voters had not forgiven the Government for the winter fuel axe.
Another, Rachael Maskell said there is “particular anger” over cuts to pensioners and disability benefits.
Doncaster mayor Ros Jones warned Labour must “listen to the people on the street” after narrowly hanging on.
