Officers found a man in his 40s had been stabbed and he was rushed to hospital.

Greater Manchester Police are still searching for the attacker after he fled the scene.

There have been no arrests made.

Two local schools have reportedly been placed on lockdown while the knifeman is still on the loose.

The George’s Central CE Primary School, on Darlington Street, and Fred Longworth High School, informed parents earlier today, as reported by the MEN.

There were two cordons put in place, one in the Manchester Road area of Tyldesley and another on Tyldesley Road, in Atherton.

It is not known if they are connected.

A GMP spokesperson said: “At 8:50am this morning (Friday, December 13) we were called to reports that a man had been stabbed on Alexander Street, Tyldesley.

“Emergency services attended and a man in his 40s has been taken to hospital for further treatment.

“A scene has been established while officers conduct initial enquiries.

“Additional officers are in the area, if you have any concerns at all, please don’t hesitate to speak to them.”
