PSG vs Tottenham preview
Paris Saint-Germain and Tottenham raise the curtain on the 2025/26 European campaign in Wednesday’s UEFA Super Cup.
The annual clash between Champions League and Europa League winners is traditionally billed as the battle to decide Europe’s top club side.
But with Conference League winners Chelsea now reigning as FIFA Club World Cup champions after beating PSG in the final, the Super Cup’s shine has arguably dulled somewhat.
Nevertheless, Luis Enrique’s PSG will be keen to put that Club World Cup disappointment behind them by adding more silverware to a cabinet that already holds last season’s impressive treble.
Paris Saint-Germain are red-hot favourites at 2/5 to lift the UEFA Super Cup – and it’s not hard to see why.
Luis Enrique’s side, who have racked up seven trophies since his arrival in 2023, come into the clash with serious momentum. They’ve won 10 of their last 12 competitive matches, putting four or more past heavyweights like Inter Milan, Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid along the way.
They have also won five of their last eight games against English sides, and will be eager to secure the club’s maiden title in this competition having only previously been runners-up to Juventus in 1996.
But there’s hope yet for Tottenham, who ended a 17-year wait for silverware by beating Manchester United in the Europa League final.
PSG’s stars only returned to pre-season training on 6 August after clocking a gruelling 65 matches last season – a French record. And recent defeats to Botafogo and Chelsea in their last six show even the best have their off days.
But Spurs will need to raise their game significantly after last week’s humbling 4-0 pre-season defeat to Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich.
New boss Thomas Frank admitted his side were well off the pace in that one, pointing to a lack of energy following a demanding pre-season tour of Hong Kong and Seoul.
Spurs will be without influential playmaker James Maddison, who is set to miss the majority of the season with an ACL injury.
However, Joao Palhinha could be in line for his first start after arriving on a season-long loan from Bayern Munich, while Dominic Solanke and Destiny Udogie have both been named in the travelling squad.

As mentioned, Luis Enrique’s men played a gruelling 65 matches last season and only returned to pre-season training last Wednesday. With no match action since their 3-0 defeat to Chelsea in the Club World Cup final, sharpness could be an issue.

It could be a slow start for PSG on Wednesday, but expect them to be flying by the final whistle.
The French champions are utterly devastating when in full flow – just look at their 5-0 demolition of Inter Milan in last season’s Champions League final.
They’ve also scored three or more goals against the likes of Real Madrid, Inter Miami, and Atletico Madrid in three of their last seven competitive matches. That ruthless streak is likely to show against a Tottenham side still finding their feet under new manager Thomas Frank – especially after shipping four goals in a fatigued defeat to Bayern Munich last time out.
Adding to Spurs’ worries, five of their last seven defeats have come by a margin of two goals or more.
