Remorseless extremist Haroon Aswat should not be free to roam our streets without proof he is no danger to the public

Risk to us all

A REMORSELESS, violent, mentally unstable al-Qaeda-trained terrorist with a deranged hatred of Jews, Christians and moderate Muslims.

An extremist henchman of hook-handed Abu Hamza linked to the 7/7 atrocity and still considered both a risk to national security and highly capable of radicalising others.

Terrorist Haroon Aswat is set to walk free in Britain despite cops saying he remains a risk

Not, you would imagine, a prime candidate to be let loose on our streets.

You’d be wrong.

As recently as 2022 Haroon Aswat was in a US jail, issuing death threats and proudly telling a British shrink: “I am a terrorist.”

Just three years later he is back here and, after hospital treatment, supposedly safe to head home to Yorkshire.

He will not even be under surveillance.

He merely has to tell cops where he’s living.

High Court judge Mr Justice Jay says: “The defendant’s treatment has been effective.”

That’s about as rose-tinted a view as can ever have been uttered.

Police think he’s still a danger. But a bizarre quirk of the rules means no formal risk assessment has been done.

For the public’s safety Home Secretary Yvette Cooper MUST demand one.

And block this appalling individual’s release until it is complete.

Legal loon

IF Attorney General Richard Hermer had his way we’d all spend every Thursday night banging pots and pans for the ECHR.

To him, this foreign court notorious for trampling on our sovereignty and security is a cause for “national celebration”.

We wonder if Keir Starmer now regrets handing a plum Government job to this unelected human rights obsessive.

Especially with Hermer also pompously declaring that criticism of judges is “entirely unacceptable”, especially from MPs in the Commons.

Recent Commons critics of judges include one Keir Starmer, over the asylum wrongly granted to a family of Gazans.

Also Justice Secretary Shabana Mahmood, over the Sentencing Council’s official endorsement of two-tier justice.

How long can Sir Keir put up with this loose cannon, who after an ignoble career spent opposing British interests has now effectively attacked him personally?

Air farce

THE Heathrow blackout and shutdown was already a global embarrassment.

Now we learn bosses were warned days earlier about the risk of power cuts.

Airlines’ representative Nigel Wicking raised concerns about the “overall resilience of the airport” after thieves stole cabling and knocked out runway lights.

No, those thefts aren’t related to the electricity substation catching fire.

But why DOES the operation of Britain’s major international airport appear constantly to be hanging by a thread?
