ROBBIE SAVAGE made four substitutions in the first minute of his Forest Green side’s clash with Wolves Under-21s last night.

Rovers took on the academy outfit at The New Lawn in the National League Cup.

Competition rules state that National League sides must start at least four players that began the previous league fixture.

For last night’s contest Savage, 50, made his seven legal changes to the starting XI.

In order to circumvent the rules, the Welshman subbed all four – Tom Knowles, Kyle McAllister, Neil Kengni, and Abraham Kanu – within the first minute of the match.

Savage’s decision raised eyebrows, with one social media user joking: “When you forget to change your line up before loading into a game.”

While a second quipped: “Gaffer changed his mind.”

The bold changes worked a treat, with Forest Green’s fully rotated team going on to win 3-2.

Teenage forward Jose Marquez gave the home side the lead on the stroke of half time, only for Matheus Mane to level shortly after the break.

Goals by Isaac Moore and Harry Cardwell saw Rovers pull away into a two-goal lead.

Daniel Angel Enguru Mangue pulled one back for Wolves late on, but Forest Green were able to hold on for the win.

Savage joined Forest Green in the summer after guiding Macclesfield to promotion last term.

The former Blackburn and Birmingham midfielder has had a brilliant start to life in Nailsworth, winning six and drawing three of his first nine National League matches in charge.

According to reporter Pete O’Rourke, Savage is already attracting interest from elsewhere.

He claims that the Forest Green boss is “on the radar” of clubs as high up the pyramid as the Championship.

Rovers are back in action this Saturday, when they travel to Woking.
