AN explosion has been heard in New York City’s Roosevelt Island, sparking a huge fire crew response.
Witnesses have said the blast just before 6am local time Tuesday caused buildings to shake.

No injuries have been reported, a New York Fire Department spokesperson told The U.S. Sun.
Footage shared on Citizen shows fire crews at the scene.
Several power outages have been reported in the area.
One social media user said: “Just heard a loud thump explosion-like sound in Roosevelt Island.
“There are four choppers above the sky seems [sic] to be monitoring the area.”
Firefighters are said to have felt some vibrations underground, according to local media reports.
Gas and Con Edison utility teams have been requested, fire officials confirmed.
Officials are examining the structure of buildings in the area following the blast, as reported by the ABC affiliate WABC-TV.
The investigation remains ongoing.
It remains unknown what has caused the fires in the maintenance holes in Manhattan.
Roosevelt Island is located within the borough of Manhattan.
