McIlroy completed the career Grand Slam after an emotional final round at Augusta National.

And in an unexpected move, every letter in the country bore a special congratulatory message.

All letters postmarked with Royal Mail between April 15 and April 17 featured a special note to Rory.

It read: “Congratulations, Rory McIlroy, on completing your career Grand Slam!”

McIlroy has become just the sixth man to ever achieve the golf career Grand Slam.

His victory at Augusta was his 17th attempt at winning the Masters and came almost 11 years after his last Major.

Rory admitted: “It’s been a very difficult journey.

“I think I’ve carried the burden of trying to complete the career Grand Slam since August 2014.

“It’s nearly 11 years, and not just about winning my next major, but also the career Grand Slam.

“Trying to join a group of five players to do it, and then watching a lot of my peers get green jackets in the process was difficult.

“I’ve tried to approach the Masters with the most positive attitude each and every time that I’ve shown up.

“It was a heavy weight to carry and thankfully now, I don’t have to carry it.

“It frees me up and I know I’m coming back here every year, which is lovely.”

Inside Rory McIlroy’s whirlwind love life

RORY MCILROY enjoyed a high-profile romance with former tennis world number one Caroline Wozniacki before their split in 2014.

The following year, the golf ace began dating Erica Stoll, who he had first met on the PGA Tour in 2011.

Erica often interacted with players through her role as the PGA’s manager of championship volunteer operations.

She even prevented McIlroy from missing his tee time at the 2012 Ryder Cup after some confusion over the time zone.

The incident began a firm friendship between the pair, four years before their relationship turned romantic.

McIlroy and Erica were spotted on a string of dates in Rochester, New York, in the early days of their relationship.

Just eight months later, the couple got engaged in Paris and walked down the aisle at Ashford Castle in Ireland in 2017.

The pair then welcomed daughter Poppy into the world three years later.

Throughout their time together, McIlroy and Erica have kept their relationship to themselves, with the golfer keen to protect his family from the cameras during filming of Netflix’s Full Swing documentary series.

However, after seven years of marriage, McIlroy filed for divorce from Erica.

The reasons for the divorce were not disclosed, but the Northern Irishman submitted documents to a court in Florida.

However, a few weeks later, performed a U-turn on their decision to divorce.

McIlroy told the outlet: “Thankfully, we have resolved our differences and look forward to a new beginning.”

Since his triumph, McIlroy has retreated to his £16million Florida mansion alongside wife Erica Stoll and daughter Poppy.

The Northern Irishman is enjoying a few weeks away from competition before hitting the links again next month.

McIlroy’s next individual event is set to be the Truist Championship, where he is the reigning and four-time champion.

That will be his only other event before the PGA Championship starts at Quail Hollow on May 15.
