Left-back Leon has burst onto the scene with Cerro Porteno in his homeland, establishing himself in their first team.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Leon will soon be announced as a Man Utd player.

The Red Devils will pay an initial £3.3million for the teenager, then a further £800,000 in add-ons.

Cerro Porteno could then receive a further £2.9m from United, although these add-on conditions will be more difficult to reach.

Following his Man Utd unveiling, it’s expected that Leon will jet back to Paraguay on Tuesday.

The plan is for him to remain at Cerro Porteno until the summer before joining up with the Red Devils in July.

Leon’s recruitment is understood to have been largely driven by Jason Wilcox.

The 53-year-old, who arrived as United’s technical director from Southampton last April, has taken on extra responsibilities since Dan Ashworth’s departure.

Chief executive Omar Berrada is said to have expanded Wilcox’s remit following the decision to ace Ashworth after just five months.

It’s claimed that United could seek to recruit another member of staff in Ashworth’s place, but it’s unlikely that they will hire another sporting director.

Ruben Amorim‘s side are set to take on Arsenal in the FA Cup this afternoon.

The Portuguese is set to give Altay Bayindir a run out in goal, while Marcus Rashford is available.

Victor Lindelof, Luke Shaw and Mason Mount all remain out with injury.
