Schoolboy, 12, fighting for life & three others in hospital after horror crash in Borders

A TWELVE-year-old boy is fighting for life and three others have been rushed to hospital after a horror two-car smash in the Scottish Borders.

Emergency services raced to the scene on the busy A1 road at around 8.40pm last night.

The horror collision happened near Penmanshiel, between Cockburnspath and Grantshouse.

Officers were called to the area after receiving reports of the smash involving a white Ford Transit Luton van and a black Peugeot 5008.

Four people were rushed to hospital after being injured as a result of the crash.

A 12-year-old boy, who was a passenger in the Peugeot, was blue-lighted to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh.

Medics have described his condition as critical.

The driver and another passenger in the Peugeot, a 50-year-old man and a 10-year-old boy, were also taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh to be treated.

While the driver of the van, a 44-year-old man, was taken to Borders General Hospital.

Police locked down the road for around ten hours as crash investigators carried out their enquiries.

It was reopened again this morning at around 6.30am.

Police launched an investigation into the incident and are appealing for anyone with information about the crash to come forward.

They are urging anyone who may have seen something, or anyone who may know something, to speak with officers.

They are particularly keen to speak with anyone who may have dashcam footage of the area from the time of the crash.

Sergeant Dominic Doyle said: “Our enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances of this crash.

“I am appealing for anyone who witnessed the crash and hasn’t already spoken to officers to get in touch.

“I would also appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time and who may have dash-cam footage which could assist to contact us.”
