Schoolgirl, 15, ‘raped’ in underpass near shopping centre in horror late-night attack as cops launch manhunt

POLICE have launched a manhunt after a 15-year-old girl was raped in an underpass.

The incident took place on the evening of June 22 near The Brewery shopping centre in Romford.

She was attacked on St Edwards Way shortly before 11.35pm, as police were called minutes later.

An investigation is currently underway as the Metropolitan Police has urged anyone with information to contact 101, quoting 8238/22June.

No arrests have been made yet but there is an increased police presence in the area.

As of yesterday, cordons still remained in place throughout the underpass, including the entrances on London Road and High Street.

Additionally, forensic teams were reportedly at the scene on Monday evening.

The girl is being supported by Metropolitan Police while the investigation takes place.

A Metropolitan Police spokesperson told MyLondon: “On Sunday, 22 June at 23:36hrs police were called to St Edwards Way, Romford to reports a girl had been raped. Officers attended and assisted the victim, a 15-year-old girl.

“She is currently being treated by specialist officers. A crime scene currently remains in place.

“We understand the concern this has caused in the community and people can expect to see an increased police presence in the area. No arrests have been made at this early stage.”
