Williams, 43, had an MRI scan to see what the lump was and was diagnosed as a cyst.

She has undergone surgery to have the cyst removed as it had “kept growing”.

Doctors advised her to have it removed as they warned it had reached the size of a “small grapefruit.”

There was also the risk that it could “get infected or at worse leak”.

She decided to have the operation after more tests, and a biopsy revealed that it was negative for cancer.

Williams gave her followers a positive update after the procedure.

She wrote: “So this is me removing it.

“I am feeling so grateful, and fortunate everything worked out, and most of all I’m healthy.”

The 23-time Grand Slam champion shared another update in which she admitted that she was still recovering.

She added: “Still recovering, but getting better.”

Williams has been retired from tennis since the 2022 US Open.

She was one of the best to ever step onto the court during her 20-year career.

She held the WTA’s top spot for 319 weeks of her glittering career.

Williams’ last major tournament victory came in 2017 when she claimed the Australian Open.

When she finally called time on her career she was just one title short of Margaret Court’s record of 24 Grand Slams.

She is married to Alexis Ohanian and has two daughters Olympia, 7, and Adira, 1.
