The 20-year-old German man was celebrating with family and friends when the candles on his birthday cake were lit.

In a matter of seconds, the partygoers realised the candles were actually fireworks.

The candles began sparkling before exploding off the cake, launching into the room full of people.

The onlookers are seen ducking for cover, with Askin and his brother left cowering beneath the dining table.

The fireworks wreaked havoc on the room full of revellers, with some guests heard screaming as the flames shot wildly into the air.

“The big fireworks started and I got really scared,” Askin later told NeedToKnow.

“At first I was shocked, me and my brother both.

“It felt a bit like a dream because I was not even thinking anymore, my body just reacted on its own like in a movie scene,” he added.

Askin described the ordeal as “funny but also scary”.

“That was me screaming,” he said.

“It sounds funny now but at the time I was really freaking out.

“It felt like a little bit of torture but also hilarious at the same time,” he added.

Online, viewers were stunned by the footage.

Comments are pouring in on the video, which has since garnered more than 112,000 views.

“Birthday or worst-day,” one commenter jested.

“That’s so dangerous,” said another, and: “That’s why women live longer than men, right there”.

This comes after a Californian fireworks warehouse was blown to smithereens, leaving neighbours fleeing for their lives and killing seven men.

The huge explosion tore through the facility on July 2, not far from the small communities of Esparto and Madison in Yolo County.

Terrified homeowners said the ground trembled beneath them as towering inferno engulfed multiple structures.

Esparto local Bryan Sandoval told the Sacramento Bee: “All we felt was everything shake.”

He and his family evacuated immediately as smoke and fireworks lit up the sky.

Footage from the scene shows white smoke billowing from the roof of the warehouse before it is engulfed by a fireball in a violent explosion.

The warehouse explosion comes at a perilous time—just two days ahead of the July 4 holiday, when fireworks demand peaks and wildfire risk runs high.
