THIS is the shocking moment a cop slapped a 12-year-old in the face after breaking up a fight outside a school.

Sharanjit Kaur, 41, was off-duty when she stormed up to the youngsters as they pushed each other around on the Birmingham street.

The moment a cop hit a schoolboy across the face has been caught on camera

Sharanjit Kaur, who resigned from the force last month last month, was charged with assault after the incident

Footage of the small brawl shows boys in school uniforms throwing hands, while others try to pull them apart as they yell “stop”.

In the clip, Kaur can be seen racing up to the group with a set of keys in hand as she starts yelling at one of the schoolboys.

She then shockingly slaps him across the face.

West Midlands Police PC Kaur, who resigned from the force last month, can be heard yelling: “Get off, who the hell are you?”

She then corners the 12-year-old shouting: “Who are you? What’s your name? Come with me.”

The former cop then says: “You’re not going anywhere.”

In the footage of the fight, which was snapped outside Nishkam High School, the boy can be heard saying he was “just messing around”.

Kaur has now appeared in court over the assault, which happened in October last year,

She was charged after a probe by the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC), which was launched when the boy’s family complained.

The police watchdog said the slap caused a cut to the boy’s cheek.

At Birmingham Magistrates Court yesterday was handed a 12-month community order for assault by beating after pleading guilty.

Kaur had previously denied the charge.

IOPC Regional Director Derrick Campbell said: “Police officers may only use force when it is necessary, proportionate, and reasonable in the circumstances.

“There was no policing purpose or any other justification for the officer to strike the boy, who posed no genuine risk to her.

“The victim’s age and vulnerability were clearly aggravating factors and then PC Kaur’s actions had the capacity to undermine public confidence in policing. She has quite rightly been held accountable.”

An IOPC spokesperson added: “Now the criminal case has concluded, the force will hold a misconduct hearing for ex-PC Kaur after our investigation found she had a case to answer for gross misconduct in relation to the force she used and other potential breaches of police standards for professional behaviour.”
