Do your duty

SICK patients will die as a direct result of the junior doctors’ six-day NHS strike from today.

It’s surely time, then, for any sensible and moderate young medics to stop being used as pawns by the BMA’s hard-Left in a political war against the Tories.

The union’s pay demand is so manifestly and absurdly excessive — and its preference for striking over negotiating so obvious — who can seriously conclude it is anything else?

The BMA’s toytown revolutionaries don’t seem to care if people die. But die they will.

Indeed there were almost 53,000 excess deaths last year — due to the NHS’s Covid hangover, made much worse by incessant union walkouts.

Each day that they strike, and abandon patients to fend for themselves, doctors go against their supposedly sacred principle to “do no harm”.

Britain is sick of the smug militants at the BMA.

Time to defy them and return to work.

Post justice

IT will be inexcusable if no one pays the price for the grotesque miscarriage of justice at the Post Office, now being dramatised on ITV.

The public inquiry ending this year must find out why bosses decided it was more likely that 700-plus staff had become thieves than that their precious new Horizon IT system was faulty.

And why they preferred to see them prosecuted, ruined and even jailed than interrogate the bogus assurances of the system’s suppliers.

Was it a cover-up, as victims believe?

Questions must be asked too of the Crown Prosecution Service.

Why did it not think it odd that so many employees of previously impeccable character were suddenly accused of theft?

The victims’ lawyer believes the inquiry has already unearthed enough evidence for criminal investigations into managers.

If so, bring them on.

Let’s see how they enjoy the same ordeal they put their innocent staff through.

A new threat

AN armed Islamist rabble cannot be allowed to derail the global economy.

We understand the reluctance of our Government, and the US, to send warplanes to bomb the rebel Houthi militia in Yemen.

The West has no desire to widen conflict in the Middle East.

But what choice will we have if they continue to attack vast cargo ships, some of them UK-registered, ferrying goods through the Red Sea, including to Britain?

The risk to supply chains and inflation is obvious, let alone to the lives of crew.

These thugs say they are showing solidarity with the terrorists of Hamas.

They must stop — or expect the same treatment as their allies in Gaza’s tunnels.
