A SERIAL offender dubbed Silent Man — who blocks traffic and refuses to say why — is a spoilt brat who wants to return to prison for free meals, his brother has told The Sun.

David Hampson, 53, stands in front of cars without speaking until police are forced to arrest him.

David Hampson, 53, has been dubbed ‘Silent Man’ after repeatedly stopping traffic without explanationWNS

He refuses to explain himself to police, judges, or psychiatrists and will not even speak to confirm his name in court.

He has been jailed ten times over the years for obstructing the highway in Swansea city centre.

But last night, his brother, John, said it was just a ploy to get free meals and a roof over his head.

He said: “He’s not really mute. He never stops talking. It is quite simple really. He’s a spoiled brat.

“There is nothing like a protest going on. He just does it to have a comfy life inside prison.”

On the day he was released from jail in October, Hampson was arrested for blocking traffic outside Swansea police station.

When JPs granted bail, he did it again outside the court. In December, he got six months.

But John, of Swansea, added: “There is nothing wrong with him. He acts dumb but I can tell you that he is not.”
