It was Maddison’s first home goal for the club and it helped Ange Postecoglou’s side regain top spot in the Premier League.

So it was no surprise Maddison was buzzing after the match – and he was not going to let technical difficulties spoil his evening.

Maddison, 26, complained he was getting interference in his headphones as he could hear an interview with Fulham boss Marco Silva.

Carragher burst out laughing and asked the midfielder: “What’s he saying?”

Maddison cleverly replied: “He was saying Maddison’s goal was excellent I think.”

That sparked laughter from the Monday Night Football team with Jones then promising to remedy the situation.

Moments later the issue with the headphones was fixed and Maddison was able to complete his chat with the Sky Sports team.

The England international discussed Spurs’ high-pressing style under Postecoglou and how it led to his second-half strike.
