Both players left the table as medical staff attended to the member of the public who required attention.

Following the prompt suspension the crowd were also evacuated from the arena.

One fan claimed online that it took around ten minutes for those in their seats to be taken out of the arena.

After a break of around 20 minutes play was resumed and fans were brought back in to watch the match.

The World Snooker Tour took to social media to show support for the member of the public who required treatment.

On X (formerly Twitter) the official account wrote: “Play has resumed here in Telford.

“We send our best wishes to the spectator taken ill.”

ITV – who were broadcasting the tournament – later confirmed that the fan in question had left the arena after receiving medical attention.

And in a positive update they told those watching that the spectator was able to “walk out of the arena”.

It’s the second time in the space of a week that a fan has been taken ill during a snooker tournament.

Martin O’Donnell and Gary Wilson both had to leave the table during the Welsh Open on Sunday when a similar incident occurred.

In Telford at the Players Championship Higgins and Zhang are playing in the last quarter-final match of the tournament.

The winner will face Mark Selby in the next round in a bid to win the £125,000 prize money that’s up for grabs for this year’s champion.
