A WICKLOW man who lost his car after parking it in a random housing estate in Cork has admitted it’s “the stupidest thing I’ve ever done”.

Kieran had been celebrating a friend’s stag do in Cork city centre, 150 miles from home, and decided to park his motor outside of the city as he was struggling to find any parking closer to the celebration.

Speaking on the Neil Prendeville Show on Cork’s RedFM, he explained: “I had a stag party in Cork and I got into the city late at night and I couldn’t find anywhere to park in the city.

“I got fed up of it and I drove like, way out of the city towards the south of the city.

“I’m not too sure how far I drove out, but I parked up in an estate and since then, I haven’t laid an eye on the car since.

“I just can’t find the estate where I left the car.”

Kieran had parked up the burgundy coloured Skoda Suberb on April 4.

He said it was his first time every having a night out in Cork, admitting that it was “great craic” until he tried to return home on the Sunday morning and couldn’t remember where he parked.

He said he was rushing at the time and struggled to recall any landmarks that could help with the hunt.

Kieran said: “One of the boys stayed back with me and we drove around Cork, we were the guts of five hours driving around Cork, through estates and looking for this car.

“I put so much hours into finding this car, it’s actually the stupidest thing I’ve ever done. It’s just been a nightmare.”

And, only knowing that he had parked it a “bit of a walk” outside of the city centre, Kieran spent three weekends coming back to Cork to try and track down the missing vehicle.

Kieran told Prendeville that he had been through a whopping 59 different estates in the suburbs of Cork during the search.

And he was even forced to contact the gardai in hopes they could help with his search.

€200 REWARD

He praised the gardai for being “really helpful and nice” about the whole situation, adding that they were “very professional”.

Hoping the locals of Cork would be able to solve the “nightmare” for him, Kieran offered up a €200 reward for anyone who could help him locate the vehicle.

He said: “I could put this to bed and get on with my life.

“I’m going to trust the good people of Cork. It’s the least I could do if they could find it, I’d be so grateful.”

CAR LOCATED

And Kieran’s “dream” came true fairly quickly, with local woman Susan Maguire contacting the programme within minutes of his plea going live.

She called to say she had spotted the car in an estate in Ballyphehane, which is over a 30 minute walk to Cork city centre.

And Kieran quickly recovered from the ordeal, admitting: “I’m cracking up over it”.

Although, the Wicklow native admitted that he was “obviously getting a load of abuse about it” from his friends.
