Shocking footage from the scene shows a pile of brick and mortar covering the lawn below the first floor flat.
The exact cause of the blast at Well Street Hall is being investigated but experts suspect a boiler malfunction.
The Metropolitan Police told The Sun they attended the scene.
A London Fire Brigade spokesperson said: “Firefighters responded to a suspected boiler explosion on Well Street in Hackney.
“A five roomed flat on the first floor, in a block of three floors, was damaged by the explosion.
“The front and rear of the building was also damaged as a result of the incident. A 25 metre cordon was in place whilst crews responded.
“One resident was rescued from the flat by firefighters using a ladder, before being treated on scene and then taken to hospital by the London Ambulance Service.”
