A TEENAGE girl was allegedly brutally raped after she was dragged into bushes while walking home in an idyllic beachside town.

The girl, 17, was near Arrawarra Beach, north of Coffs Harbour in Australia‘s New South Wales, when she was allegedly attacked about 7.30pm on Friday night.

Police arrested a man and officers are investigating

Police arrested a man at a camping ground in Arrawarra about 5pm on Sunday.

Hundreds of seasonal workers from a nearby berry farm are understood to be living at the site, with the village also popular among surfers, campers, backpackers, and tourists.

The man was taken to the Coffs Harbour police station and “assisting police with their inquiries”. No charges have been laid.

He is believed to be one of some 400 berry pickers living at the holiday park and part of a larger labour pool hired from Pacific Island countries and Timor-Leste to work across NSW harvest areas, Daily Mail Australia reports.

It comes just a week after a young girl was allegedly chased into a toilet cubicle by a man she believed to be affected by alcohol.

Locals complained earlier this year that fruit pickers were turning the Arrawarra village into a “shanty town”, making reference to several alleged episodes of drunkenness and aggression by workers.

The coastal paradise – which was once considered a hidden gem with pristine surf, kangaroos, and an easygoing vibe – is now also littered with rubbish, they claimed.

Only 50 to 100 people live at Arrawarra full time, many of whom have been vocal about their upset over the recent influx of hundreds of berry pickers.

The provider of the worker accommodation shot back at locals earlier this year, accusing them of making up “lies and fabrication” and being prejudiced against Pacific Islander people who make up a majority of the fruit pickers.
