ERIK TEN HAG is reportedly battling to keep the Manchester United dressing room.

And it’s resulted in Ten Hag bringing injured defender Lisandro Martinez back into the first-team fold as a show of support.

United crashed to their 10th defeat of the season on Saturday.

The Red Devils were second-best all over the pitch in a 1-0 loss at Newcastle.

And they even had to be told by assistant boss Steve McClaren to clap the travelling supporters at full-time.

United’s fixture list does not get any easier this month, with games against Chelsea, Bayern Munich and Liverpool on the horizon.

And some players are said to be falling out of love with Ten Hag’s vision.

It’s claimed that although some stars remain behind the Dutchman, morale is all-around low.

A group of aces have now “privately raised issues” over Ten Hag’s training sessions, as well as his “cavalier” tactics.

United have shipped more goals than they have scored in the league so far.

And it gets worse in the Champions League, with United conceding 14 goals in just five games — making for the joint second-worst defence in the competition.

Ten Hag has sought to calm things down by refusing to criticise his players publicly.

A source told ESPN that some backroom staff feel certain United stars “do not respond well to criticism.”

Meanwhile, Ten Hag is said to have “missed the influence” of crocked duo Casemiro and Martinez.

The latter has now been brought back to the dressing room despite being out with a foot injury until next year.

Martinez is said to be one Ten Hag’s biggest supporters after working with him at Ajax.

And his presence is seen as a way of backing the boss as he prepares for a key part of the season.
