Billionaire CNN founder Ted Turner revealed that his popular news channel has a plan for a doomsday, stating it will continue to cover events until the world ends.

The founder of the network made his grandiose promise at the launch of CNN in 1980.

“Barring satellite problems, we won’t be signing off until the world ends,” he said.

“We’ll be on, and we will cover the end of the world, live, and that will be our last event.”

The apocalyptic soundtrack isn’t a high energy rock anthem or an upbeat song, instead it’s an eerily calm Christian hymn.

Turner said: “We’ll play the National Anthem only one time, on the first of June [the day CNN launched], and when the end of the world comes, we’ll play ‘Nearer My God To Thee’ before we sign off.”

In the leaked video, a military band stands in formation outside Turner’s mansion.

They play a sombre melody mentioned by Turner as the soldier raises a flag.

Then, the musicians finish the farewell song and snap their instruments to attention as the video fades to black.

Mike Ballaban, who leaked the video, said: “This is the way the world ends, not with a bang, not with a whimper, but with one melancholy little band, and a quick fade to black.”

The same mournful hymn was reportedly played on Titanic before it was overcome by icy waters.

The same hymn is likely the last thing you’ll hear and see on the news as the day of reckoning arrives.

Ballaban leaked the video online in 2015 after learning about it during his time at CNN.

He was an intern at the network in 2009 when he heard the rumours about the soundtrack’s existence.

He said it was a well-known fact among CNN employees, but it took him some effort to track down the video.

“It’s one of those things you only look for if you’re a really bored intern or have a lot of time on your hands,” he said.

The video was hidden in CNN intranet video base with a strict instruction to “hold for release till the end of world confirmed.”

The rumours of apocalyptic broadcast plan have been circulated since 1980s.

But recently, the leaked video has gone viral on TikTok, sparking discussions around it.

Turner isn’t the only billionaire to prepare for Armageddon.

The world’s richest buy out five-star nuclear bunkers with swimming pools, spas, wine cellars and cinemas to batten down the hutches.

During coronavirus, some of them fled to luxury bunkers in New Zealand to avoid the dangerous disease.
