Shocking footage from May 1 this year showed a rival gang in a stolen Mini Cooper speeding after the thugs who had fired from their hijacked Ford Focus.
More bullets were shot from a gunman in the Mini Cooper, who blew out the Ford Focus’ rear windscreen.
A girl, 11, had been innocently playing in the Shelley Road park when she was hit in the leg.
Meanwhile, a boy aged 15 was riding his bike in the car park close by and was stuck just below the knee.
Both youngsters were rushed to hospital, while the horror left their local community in a state of shock and fear.
The gunmen quickly disposed of their weapons and mobile phones after fleeing.
There were no eye-witnesses at the scene but after “techincal and painstaking” investigations, West Midlands Police were able to track down the thugs.
Cops confirmed three men were convicted of attempted murder and aggravated vehicle taking at Birmingham Crown Court on Thursday December 14.
Kian Durnin, 22, was driving the car, with Tireq McIntosh, 23, as a front passenger and both men fired weapons.
Martinho De Sousa, 24, was found to be sat in the back seat.
Durnin, of Milton Road, McIntosh, of Valley Road and De Sousa, of Deansfield Road are set to be sentenced on December 20.
Det Insp Francis Nock, from our Major Crime Team, said: “At least six shots were fired and it’s by sheer luck that these two children weren’t more seriously injured or killed.
“Thankfully, they have both made recoveries from their physical wounds. But this has left their families shattered.
“We may never know who the intended targets were, or why the shooting happened, but we believe it involved tensions between gangs in the Wolverhampton area, and may be connected to illegal drugs.
“This was a cowardly attack by men who had no hesitation in firing deadly guns next to a children’s playground.”
