Scottie Scheffler is back on home ground in Texas, as he makes another attempt to end his victory drought at the CJ Cup in Dallas.
The world No 1 is head and shoulders above this field on paper – Sungjae Im, ranked 20th, is Scheffler’s closest rival in the world rankings.
So it is no surprise to see the man who won nine times last year installed as a red hot 11-4 favourite to finally open his account for 2025.
But Scheffler’s best finish in five previous outings in Dallas is a share of fifth.
Add that to the fact that he keeps going close without crossing the finishing line at the moment, and that short price is only for the brave or the reckless.

The CJ Cup Byron Nelson betting tips
There are also question marks over most of the other players near the top of the market. Jordan Spieth is second favourite at around 18-1, but his inconsistency has been well documented.
Third favourite Sungjae Im failed to follow up his impressive Masters showing when 11th at the Heritage – and he missed the cut last week when bidding for a hat-trick of wins at the Woori Championship in Korea.
Those wins in Korea in 2023 and 2024 are Im’s only victories since he claimed his second PGA Tour title four years ago, and I’ve started to run out of patience with him.
I prefer the chances of fellow Korean Ben An. He finished a close fourth here last year, and ended 2024 with victory at the Genesis. Another win cannot be far away, and at 28-1 it is worth wagering that it will happen this week.
Defending champion Taylor Pendrith has gone close to adding to last year’s success a few times, and was fifth in the Texas Open a few weeks ago.
The big-hitting Canadian clearly enjoys teeing it up in the Lone Star state, and at 33-1 he has to come into the reckoning again.
Ben Griffin‘s victory alongside Andrew Novak in the hotly-contested Zurich Classic last week should be a big confidence boost.
He only just missed out on a top ten finish here a year ago, and he is a better player now. So a best-priced 45-1 is tempting.
Ryo Hisatsune was right in the mix at the Zurich alongside fellow Japaneses star Takumi Nakaya before a poor finish in the second round of foursomes sent them crashing down the leaderboard.
Hisatsune still played plenty of good golf, and at 66-1 he remains a good each way option – and so does 80-1 shot Alejandro Tosti, who was only a shot away from justifying the confidence shown in him here for the Corales.
Nico Echavarrio also continues to be worth a small interest while he remains at three figure odds – he can be backed at 125-1 this week – while Puerto Rico winner Karl Vilips got back on an even keel at the Heritage. The 125-1 on offer looks fair.

This week’s other main event is the LIV South Korea shoot-out, where Bryson DeChambeau will be looking to bounce back from his disappointing final round effort at the Masters.
DeChambeau disputes favouritism with Jon Rahm and Joaquin Niemann, two other in-form players who flattered to deceive at Augusta.
You will struggle to get better odds than 7-1 for any of that trio, and in such a tight contest that price holds little appeal.
Patrick Reed’s third place finish at Augusta seems to have been overlooked. At 22-1 he looks the pick of this market.
Marc Leishman is also worth a second glance at 40-1, especially after his victory at LIV Miami at the start of April
And highly-rated young Spaniard Luis Masaveu is finding his feet in the LIV ranks. He will win an event soon, and at 250-1 he is worth an each way interest here.
