THOUSANDS of civil servants are considering quitting in protest at being told they should go to the office three days a week.

New guidance was issued earlier this month amid fears too much working from home is harming policy delivery in Whitehall.

The PCS union said nearly 40 per cent of its members said the change in rules had led to them questioning their future.

The survey, seen by The Times, suggested as many as 4,800 people were considering leaving the Civil Service.

It came as the Covid inquiry heard ex-PM Boris Johnson had demanded “malingering work-shy” Brits get back to the office as far back as July 2021.

He told ministers they “can’t have the b*****ks of consulting with employees and trade unions” before the final call was made.

New extracts from the diary of former Chief Scientist Patrick Vallance showed Mr Johnson became increasingly frustrated by the remaining restrictions.

The then-PM reportedly bellowed: “Are we going to encourage people to wear masks?

“Are we going to continue with this b*****ks?”
