The government has urged Amazon to recall Dorland ‘Intrinsically Safe’ Electronic Equipment for use in Zone 1/Zone 2 explosive hazardous zones.
The Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) has said the the products present a “serious risk of explosion and fire.”
The products do not feature any of the required safety markings that indicate they are safe for use in explosive environments.
The devices were sold via Amazon, but were dispatched from and sold by Dorland-Ex smartphones.
Affected products include smartphones, smart watches, and laptops.
The recall reads: “The products within scope of the corrective action have been identified as presenting a serious risk of explosion and fire.
“The products claim to be suitable for use in Zone 1 and Zone 2 hazardous areas.
“There is no evidence that an appropriate conformity assessment was carried out before the products were placed on the market in Great Britain.
“The products do not have any of the required markings, including the specific markings of explosion protection and the symbol of the equipment-group and category.
“The products within the scope of the corrective action do not meet the requirements of the Equipment and Protective Systems Intended for Use in Potentially Explosive Atmospheres Regulations 2016.”
Anyone who owns one of the selected models should return it immediately, and should be able to get a full refund.
Products are commonly recalled when they pose a risk to customers’ health.
If you are worried about the safety of one of your products, check the government website, to see if a recall has been issued.
