Appletreewick is the village that is tucked away in the picturesque rolling fields of the Yorkshire Dales.
Pronounced as “App-trick” by locals, this stunning place is full of winding country roads and has plenty of stunning views over Wharfedale.
The tiny gem has everything that encompasses rural England as sheep roam freely across the acres of greenland.
Ancient cottages line the roads as dry stone walls can be seen to stretch across the signature emerald hills of the county.
Back in the day, the village was a thriving hub thanks to farming and lead mining industries.
Now with only a few dozen residents, it is famous for its authenticity as a quintessential Yorkshire village.
But there’s one attraction that is most notable to both the locals and enthusiastic tourists.
The Craven Arms has been dubbed by many as the “best pub in the world.”
It even featured on The One Show when George and Larry Lamb visited the studio in 2017 to speak about their cycling trip around Britain.
Larry said: “We went to, what I think is the best pub in the world. It’s in Appletreewick and it’s called The Craven Arms.
“And it’s just incredible, we had a night of ferret racing there.”
The institution serves up typical Yorkshire classics like giant fish and chips and an award-winning sticky toffee pudding for dessert.
Or punters could opt for the legendary steak and ale pie while they enjoy a pint of local Hetton Pale Ale.
However, there is another village in the south of England that has been named the best place to live in England and Wales.
Redbourn, Hertfordshire, has been given the 2025 title by Garrington Property Finders, which creates an annual report.
The charming village dates back to Roman times and it is located just 30 miles from central London.
It also has a population of just 6,913 people, which provides the perfect place to escape.
It was also the location of one of the first cricket matches ever played back in 1666.
The company analysed 1,447 cities, towns and villages with more than 5,000 residents.
The locations are judged on five key criteria which includes natural beauty, well being, heritage, school & jobs, as well as value for money.
