CHELSEA chief Todd Boehly was seemingly told to get off his phone and watch the football in an awkward exchange with his wife that has gone viral on social media.

Boehly, 51, was caught scrolling on his phone by the Sky Sports cameras during Chelsea’s goalless draw with Crystal Palace on Sunday.

The American businessman‘s wife, Katie, did her best to nudge him and make him aware of the fact he was being broadcast live to the nation while not even watching the game.

And while her efforts made Boehly turn his attention to the Stamford Bridge pitch, the damage was already done in terms of fans’ opinions on the matter.

Blues supporters took to social media to bemoan their billionaire boss’ seeming disinterest in their Premier League opener.

One fumed: “So apparent he has no interest in the football club beyond seeing it as an asset.”

While another added: “Bro ain’t even interested in watching his own team.”

In reference to Boehly’s wife Katie, a third teased: “Team player. Good awareness on the blindside.”

And a fourth joked: “Like in school when the teacher clocks you on your phone.

In fairness to Boehly, there wasn’t a whole lot of excitement taking place on the pitch.

Chelsea looked lacklustre as they failed to earn a home win in their first Premier League match of the season.

And they could have left with no points whatsoever if not for Eberechi Eze‘s disallowed free-kick.

The Palace star smashed home a first-half free-kick, but saw it ruled out for a little known rule.

Eagles defender Marc Guehi was deemed to be less than one metre away from the Chelsea wall when he impacted play.

The referee announced the reason behind the decision, saying: “After review, away number six is less than one metre away from the wall as the shot is taken.

“Therefore, it’s an indirect free kick and a disallowed goal.”
