TONY FERGUSON has talked down retirement to say he is returning to action as a fresh fighter – even getting himself a new HAIRLINE.

Ferguson was once a pound-for-pound UFC star who held the interim lightweight title before defeat to Justin Gaethje in 2020.

Gaethje snapped a 12-fight win streak for Ferguson – who then went on to lose EIGHT in a row sparking one of the sport’s most drastic downfalls.

But Ferguson has left behind his career in MMA to make a switch to the ring – signing for Misfits Boxing – home to celebrity-style crossover bouts.

And the 41-year-old American hit back at critics – including UFC boss Dana White – who has desperately pleaded for his retirement.

Ferguson told SunSport: “I mean honestly you could turn the camera around on the person that’s telling them that s***, they’re probably fat, hairy and ugly, and I’m neither of that s***.

“When it goes into it, I got a new hairline, I took eight months off, I feel confident, I feel good. I got my crew back with me.

“I feel damn near pretty good. My weight is good. Usually I’m bouncing my weight from 200lbs to 155lbs. Not the case. I’m floating around 175lbs.

“It’s good, feel great, and I just can’t wait for Saturday night. It doesn’t matter who the f*** supports me or doesn’t support me.

“I got God on my shoulders and I got my wife and my family right there, and that’s all I really need.

“Anything else outside of that with my family and my friends and my crew, which is my team.

“I’m not paying attention to any of you f***ers. When it goes into it, this is my fight game.”

Ferguson becomes the latest MMA star to make the move to boxing – something he had always planned on doing.

He said: “I’ve always wanted to box. This is one of those opportunities that I just couldn’t pass by.

“The last MMA fight, I sat there and I was talking to my agent as I was getting ready to cut some weight, I said, ‘I can’t wait to box.’

“So here we go, August 30th, Misfits 22.”

Ferguson takes on TikToker Salt Papi – who has become one of the breakout names from the Misfits space.

But father-of-two Ferguson, ten years his opponent’s senior, admitted: “I really don’t pay attention too much content creators when it goes into YouTube or as far as TikToks.

“I’m too busy doing sports and just playing them and or either coaching them or, practicing.

“So I mean, so when I got the opportunity, I just looked at his record, he’s 6-2. He’s a professional boxer and I’m making my pro debut.

“My kids really don’t pay attention to that stuff either, so I mean what goes into it, he’s another opponent, so when I come here on August 30th, he’s gonna have his hands full.”
