TOTTENHAM are interested in signing Manuel Akanji before Monday’s deadline.

Spurs boss Thomas Frank has wanted an extra centre-back all summer long with Radu Dragusin still recovering from an anterior cruciate ligament injury.

Manchester City look open to letting £15million-rated Akanji go this summer.

The Swiss international, 30, has two years left on his City contract but has not played a minute so far this season for Pep Guardiola’s side.

Sunsports exclusively revealed that Crystal Palace had also contacted Akanji as they looked to add another defender before the transfer window shuts.

But they have since agreed a fee for French centre back Jaydee Canvot, cooling interested in the Manchester City star.

AC Milan are also keen on the former Borussia Dortmund star, but the Serie A giants are not in the Champions League this season.

That could give Spurs an advantage in the race for Akanji, as he is believed to favour a switch to a club playing in Europe’s elite club competition.

Spurs were drawn on Thursday against Paris Saint-Germain, Dortmund, Eintracht Frankfurt, Villarreal, Slavia Prague, Bodo/Glimt, FC Copenhagen and Monaco in the Champions League.

Spurs have also been linked to Akanji’s City team-mate Nathan Ake but sources have played down the prospects of that transfer.

This has been a summer of change for Tottenham who replaced Europa League-winning manager Ange Postecoglou with Thomas Frank.

They’ve also made the difficult decision to allow Son Heung-min to leave after nearly 10 years at the club.

The South Korean without a doubt a club legend after captaining them to victoria in Europe last season.

Among those who’ve come through the door is Mohammed Kudus, who already looks like a bargain after an impressive start in the first two games of the season.

They’re also on the verge of beating Chelsea to the signing of Xavi Simons, another exciting addition who could match Kudus in flair and impact.

And bringing in Akanji before the transfer window shuts would be seen as another smart move, with his ability to play both as a full-back and a central defender offering valuable versatility.
