Paul’s redesign of Sun Online in 2006 was also recognised by the digital news industry when he was awarded the Association of Online Publishers’ award for Design & Usability in 2007.

He also won the Getty Images Picture Editor’s Award for Design in the same year.

And Paul also contributed to The Sun Online winning the Newspaper website of the year award in 2007.

During his time, Sun Online overtook The Guardian, Telegraph, MailOnline and The Times to become the UK’s most popular UK newspaper website.

Pete Picton, former Editor of The Sun Online, said: “He was a pioneer in creating an exciting new look for news websites, with his bold use of pictures and type that has since been imitated across online publishing.

“His design innovations are still used by the Sun Online today, as well as its competitors.”

Paul graduated from the London College of Communication with a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Graphic & Media Design, before achieving a Master of Arts in Digital Direction from the Royal College of Art.

He joined The Sun in November 2000, spending more than 10 years at News Corp – including roles as senior designer and art director.

Paul also worked for the BBC, Sky, ITV and the British Museum during a storied career.
