DONALD Trump “knows” Nigel Farage will be Britain’s next Prime Minister, the Reform UK leader claimed yesterday.

As the US President was given a Guard of Honour at Windsor — striding ahead of King Charles — Mr Farage conceded Sir Keir Starmer was doing a good job of hugging Mr Trump close for the good of the “special relationship”.

But he put the PM on notice — boasting that Mr Trump and his top team know he will seize the keys to No 10 eventually.

In a fiery intervention last night, Mr Farage — who is well ahead of Labour in the polls — hinted that the US President has openly mused about the prospect of him taking power.

He told Harry Cole Saves the West: “We should view ourselves as being incredibly lucky that we have an American president with such a deep, emotional soft spot for the United Kingdom.

“When he was asked about electoral prospects in Britain, he said, ‘Sure, Keir can beat my friend Nigel, as long as he’s tough on borders, tough on law and order and drills lots of oil and gas in the North Sea.’

“So you can make your own mind up what that really meant.”

Pressed if Mr Trump recognises him as Britain’s next leader, Mr Farage was bullish, saying: “He knows that. All the American administration are acutely aware of it.

“They think they see some similarities in what they’ve done and what we’ve done, and you know what, we speak the same language.”

Sir Keir faces tense talks with Mr Trump today at his Chequers country retreat as the two get down to the thorny political agenda following yesterday’s pomp and pageantry.

Middle East negotiations could prove tricky given the President’s fury with the PM’s decision to formally recognise the state of Palestine in a matter of weeks.

A press conference this afternoon could also expose divisions between the two leaders on Net Zero, illegal migration and free speech — as well as the Jeffrey Epstein scandal.

Sir Keir will lay the charm on thick today as he greets the President at his Buckinghamshire grace-and-favour estate.

He will gift Mr Trump a bespoke ministerial red box emblazoned with the Presidential seal, and Melania a silk scarf embroidered with artwork by Ukrainian children.

The First Couple will also be given a hamper with jams made from fruit grown on the Chequers estate and homemade shortbread from the head chef.

Talks will continue over a Dover sole lunch before an aerial display by the British Red Devils parachute team.

Sir Keir has been forced to abandon hope of eliminating steel tariffs despite a promise by Mr Trump to cut the 25 per cent levy.

The White House is understood to have offered to scrap tariffs for a small quota of steel and aluminium exports provided remaining shipments were subject to the global 50 per cent rate.

No 10 has decided to stick with the 25 per cent tariff for an unlimited number of exports — believing it to be the lesser of two evils.

While Downing Street is braced for flak for getting handed a worse-than-expected deal, sources insist it is still better than most countries.

Sir Keir will instead trumpet £150billion worth of investment into the UK announced during Mr Trump’s state visit.

‘British brilliance’

The package will create 7,600 jobs in Britain across manufacturing, energy and life sciences.

It includes a £90billion investment from Blackstone and an announcement from Boeing to convert two 737 aircraft for the US Air Force.

The PM said: “When we back British brilliance, champion our world-class industries, and forge deeper global alliances — especially with friends like the US — we help shape the future for generations to come and make people across the country better off.”

Not everyone was feeling better off yesterday, however.

The Metropolitan Police estimate up to 5,000 people gathered in Parliament Square for a rally against the President’s state visit.
