DONALD Trump has touted signing an executive order that would see soccer renamed as football.
The revelation comes after the president immersed himself in Chelsea’s Club World Cup celebrations following the West London club’s impressive victory over reigning European Champions PSG in New Jersey.

The U.S. is also gearing up to host the 2026 FIFA World Cup alongside Canada and Mexico – with the opening game less than 11 months away.
But, Trump has suggested renaming the game Americans call soccer “football” for the tournament.
“I think we could do that,” he told DAZN on Sunday.
The US is on a small list of countries that call the game soccer, along with Canada, Australia and South Africa.
Most countries call the sport football, or refer to it by its equivalent translation.
Americans have used the word soccer for more than 200 years.
Soc was used as an abbreviation for the word “association.”
Trump said soccer or football is a sport that can bring the world together.
He even revealed who he believes was the greatest ever player to take to the field.
Trump didn’t name Argentine legends Diego Maradona or Lionel Messi as his GOAT, but rather Pele.
Trump watched Chelsea storm to victory alongside his wife Melania, and FIFA supremo Gianni Infantino.
Chelsea ace Cole Palmer scored two goals as the Blues stormed to a 3-0 first-half lead.
He assisted new signing Joao Pedro, who dinked the ball over PSG’s towering goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, to make it 3-0 just before half time.
PSG tried to muster a response but couldn’t find a way past the Chelsea defense.
PSG’s Portuguese midfielder João Neves was sent for an early bath after being caught pulling Marc Cucarella’s hair.
After the game, Trump handed out medals to the referees and posed for a picture.
Trump also handed out an award to Palmer, who was named the Best Player of the Tournament.
And he was seen congratulating Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sanchez, who made a string of impressive saves as he kept a clean sheet.
Sanchez was named the best goalkeeper in this year’s tournament.
Trump attended the final of the Club World Cup, which took place exactly one year after he survived an assassination attempt at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.
Lone wolf gunman Thomas Crooks, 20, fired eight rounds at the rally, piercing the top of then candidate-Trump’s left ear.
Trump survived two attempted assassinations in the run-up to last November’s presidential election.
The president has accepted an invitation to the UK for a state visit that will take place between September 17 and September 19.
September 19 will mark the three-year anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II’s state funeral.
But Trump will not address both Houses of Parliament during the state visit.
