Two men charged with kidnap and robbery after BMW chased by cops crashes into nursing home with two women dead

TWO men have been charged in relation to a car crash that saw two care home residents die.

The crash occurred on July 9 at around 9.40pm following a police chase.

It resulted in a blue BMW colliding with Highcliffe Care Home in Sunderland, leaving two of its residents dead.

Pictures revealed a gaping hole in the side of the nursing home – which cares for around 60 residents.

Police confirmed that two care home residents – a woman in her 90s and a woman in her 80s – died on Thursday.

Eight others were taken to hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

It followed reports of a car being stolen in Newcastle around 20 minutes before the crash.

A woman related to the sale was allegedly still inside the car when it was driven away.

She was reportedly forcibly removed shortly after.

Northumbria Police have charged the men, both aged 21, with a number of offences related to the incident.

Sam Asgari-Tabar, has been charged with robbery, kidnap and causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

Reece Parish has been charged with robbery and kidnap.

Relating to a separate incident, Reece has also be charged with violent disorder.

The men are due to appear at Newcastle Magistrates’ Court on July 12.

A spokesperson for Avery Healthcare, which runs the home, said: “We are deeply saddened by the incident at our home in Sunderland and our thoughts are with all those affected.

“We are committed to supporting our residents, their families, and our dedicated staff during this incredibly difficult time.

“We are immensely grateful for the compassion and professionalism our teams have shown and continue to show.

“As this remains part of an active police investigation, we are unable to comment further at this stage.”

Following the police pursuit, the case has also been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct.
