The veteran promoter, as he usually does, squared off the fighters after their ceremonial stepping on the scales.

And he had to stop main eventers Du Plessis and Chimaev from prematurely trading blows.

Defending middleweight champion Du Plessis marched over and immediately got in the face of the challenger after tipping the scales.

The pair briefly touched before White managed to jump in and create a barrier.

The UFC‘s security team managed to pull the pair apart, but not before Chimaev prodded DDP’s stomach.

It momentarily looked like security would allow the duo to go nose-to-nose after the flare-up.

But they opted against doing so when it became clear that neither man would calm down.

A fired-up Chimaev then pointed his finger at Du Plessis and appeared to say: “One more day.”

Fan favourite Chimaev goes into his maiden UFC title fight as a huge favourite.

That’s despite only having fought in the weight class three times in his five-year run in MMA‘s top promotion.

And moments after his near pre-fight tussle with DDP, the Chechen vowed to claim the belt with a chilling message.

The 31-year-old roared to Joe Rogan in his final pre-fight interview: “I’m gonna f*** this boy up.

“He has only one day left. He’s dead tomorrow.”

DDP issued a similarly chilling final statement, saying: “I can tell you this, I’m putting that man to sleep.

“Whether it be on the ground, whether I’m knocking him out – I’m taking out your boy.

“And all of you will be cheering. I just know it, like every other time.”
