THE UK is struggling to cope with extremism — leading to an “insidious erosion” of our democracy, a report warns today.
It calls for urgent action from the Government to tackle the “evolving threat” of far right and Islamic groups.

In the review, Dame Sara Khan makes 15 recommendations.
They include the creation of an Office for Social Cohesion and Democratic Resilience and a five-year action plan.
Dame Sara said: “My review sheds light on the lack of capability, strategy and response to the slow and insidious erosion of our democratic rights and freedoms by a diverse range of actors.
“I’m calling on the Government to commit to a new strategic approach to help protect and preserve our democratic way of life.”
Her review concludes that disinformation, extremism, harassment and intimidation have led to people self-censoring their opinions.
A poll found 76 per cent of Brits have refrained from expressing their views in public for fear of being harassed.
